Abstract(s)
This report, with the subject “Pain - from evaluation to control”, was carried out under the Master Course in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, lectured by the Institute of Health Sciences of the Portuguese Catholic University. In the process of competences development, part of the curricular plan, and in addition to the theoretical component, it also incorporates a practical component in a stage context subdivided into three parts: General Emergency Service, Intensive Care and Pain Unit. My intervention aimed to reflect about and analyze the approach to the patient with acute or chronic pain, in order to develop specialized skills in the area. In the report is carried out the description and critical analysis of the developed activities, with the purpose of highlighting the specialized competences acquired in stage. This is the place where the excellence of the professional practices takes place, through the acquired knowledges mobilization, where the practice and training cross eachother, in an interactive process. The theme of comfort related to the evaluation and pain control appears as a transversal axis to the whole report, considering it an area of interest in the contribution to the improvement of nursing care quality. The concept of caring appears globally throughout the report, being something inherent to the nursing care practice, important point in the acknowlegdement of humanization and the relationship with the patient. In the course of internships, specialized care was provided to the critically ill patient and his family, in-service training, and patient care were promoted, as well as the professional appreciation of nurses, through the support of evidence-based practice. In the scope of pain, I developed a recording instrument for pain evaluation, and it was implemented in the training service. I also carried out a systematic review of the literature, with theubject “Adherence to analgesic therapy by the person with chronic pain”, and the scientific evidence showed high levels of nonadherence to analgesics due to varied factors. The dissemination of results contributes to changing practices, improving patient care and well-being.
