Abstract(s)
This investigation aims to carry out an evaluation of the process and results of the intervention of a psychedelic emergency service, as well as to characterize the participants and the experiences of psychological crisis triggered by the use of psychoactive substances, which were the target of intervention, in that service, during the 2023 edition of a major psychedelic music and culture festival. Intervention monitoring documents filled out by the intervention team and directly by participants were analyzed, as well as quantitative questionnaires reporting on the crisis experience. Marked by the trend of polyuse, mostly of psychedelics (LSD and Psilocybin), in the company of others and in the music and dance spaces of the festival in question, the psychological crisis experiences were characterized considering the mental state of the participants, with more significant changes at the time of arrival compared to the time of departure. Furthermore, 27.7% (N=10) of participants experienced a high degree of difficulties related to the experience. In relation to emotional breakthrough, 52.8% (N=19) of participants reveal normative levels of emotional breakthrough, associated with the crisis experience. Several implemented strategies that characterize the intervention process were also described, such as ensuring participants' basic needs (areas rest, food, and water), talk about the crisis experience and relaxation techniques. Participants' high satisfaction with the service in question is notable. It is recommended that future investigations be carried out with the aim of evaluating the long-term effects of interventions carried out in this context.
