Abstract(s)
Dadas as
significativamente.
This master thesis is based on a research developed in the field of subjective well-being and the life quality of institutionalized elderly. The sample, (n=100) participants are elderly between 65 to 96 years, who live in three nursing homes in Vila Nova de Famalicão. The choice of this subject is due to the relevancy of this matter, a primordial content in the Gerontology area, since the number of elderly in our society is significantly increasing, as well as the average life expectancy. Given the physical and mental limitations, derived from their age, it’s extremely important to ensure the elderly well-being and quality of life. Thus, the interest of analysing the quality of life, life satisfaction and the flow experience raised and increased significantly. This is a quantitative, observational, transversal and correlational study, in which four instruments were applied: sociodemographic questionnaire, life satisfaction scale - SWLS (Diener, Emmons, Larsen and Griffins, 1985), quality of life questionnaire - WHOQOL-BREF (Canavarro et al., 2007), flow questionnaire (Graziano, 2005). The results show that the inquired elderly are happy and have a good quality of life. When it comes to the flow questionnaire, although it is an instrument with some known limitations, more than half of the sample stated to have moments of subjective happiness. Nonetheless, the flow does not correlate significantly, since the quality of life and life satisfaction are positively and essentially correlated.
