Coach's communication is widely considered one of the main influences on athletes' self-confidence. However, there are significant gaps in the research, particularly regarding communication during training and the athletes' perception of the communication displayed by the coach. This study aimed to analyze and compare the coach's communication during training and games, as well as to examine the relationship between this communication and athletes' self-confidence, using the Communication Behavior Assessment System (SACC; Gomes et al., 2020). The sample consisted of a senior basketball team. Four training sessions and four games were recorded, during which the coach's verbal communication was coded using an observation grid, and the athletes also evaluated the coach's communication through self-report measures. The results indicated that the coach predominantly demonstrated positive communication behaviors, both in games as in training sessions. However, these behaviors were not predictors of athletes' self-confidence. The athletes' perception of the coach's communication was a significant predictor of self-confidence: the perception of spontaneous communication, both positive and negative, showed a positive relationship with athletes' self-confidence.
