Abstract(s)
Professional nursing began with Florence Nightingale, pioneer of the reflective process of the nursing subject, which allowed the birth of Modern Nursing. This, as a subject, was marked throughout its evolution by currents of thought which are based on the concepts of Person, Health, Care and Environment. Therefore, and in order to meet the needs of the Person / Family, nurses, throughout the course of their professional activity, bet on education, aiming to improve their professional competence. This work falls under the Master Course in Professional Nature Nursing Specialisation Area: Medical - Surgical Nursing, in order to acquire and develop skills in the care of either the adult or elderly or patients in critical condition, integrated into the course. These internships took place in these services: Emergency - Hospital Luz and Intermediate Care Unit and Hospital Infection Control Committee at Hospital de Santa Maria (North Lisbon Hospital Centre). The methodology of this work involves a critical and reflective analysis of the practice, using the assumptions advocated by Jean Watson - School of Human Care - and theoretical Nola Pender - School of Health Promotion. They both guide the action of caregiving. The central theme of this report is the welcome to the Person / Family, because it allows and encourages the involvement of the person in care, thus reflecting our way of beeing present within the action. This report aims to demonstrate the skills acquisition and development in providing specialized care in the specialty area in question recommended by the Rules of Professional Practice of Nursing
