Abstract(s)
A crise ambiental que, desde a década de 70 do século passado, tem sido progressivamente objeto de preocupação nas diversas esferas da sociedade contemporânea, pelas questões que levanta acerca da sustentabilidade do planeta, ameaçada pela degradação e desequilíbrio dos diversos ecossistemas, exige reflexões profundas sobre o modo como o ser humano deve pautar o seu comportamento, a partir da tomada de consciência de que os recursos naturais não são ilimitados e a natureza precisa de ser cuidada, preservada e amada, em vez de explorada e abusada, sob pena de, já hoje, mas sobretudo para as gerações futuras, não haver lugar nem condições de vida e habitabilidade nesta que é “a nossa casa comum”. Perante tais questões, importa realçar o papel da Igreja Católica, através do Magistério Pontifício, na chamada de atenção dos governos e instâncias internacionais para a crise ecológica e para a necessidade de uma verdadeira educação ambiental sobre o valor da criação, apelando para a urgente mudança de estilos de vida e assunção de valores de autêntica conversão ecológica, a partir da tomada de consciência de que a crise ecológica é indicativa de uma outra bem mais profunda que nasce do interior do ser humano. É uma crise de valores éticos, morais e religiosos que impede o homem de reconhecer o seu lugar e presença no mundo, numa perspetiva de verdadeira ecologia integral, de cuidar, respeitar e amar, a si mesmo e aos outros e toda criação, pois que “tudo está interligado” e é dom de Deus. Neste complexo mundo de interligações, em que é preciso intervir, no sentido de uma educação e formação contínuas para a ecologia integral, importa também dar o devido relevo ao contributo da disciplina de Educação Moral e Religiosa Católica ministrada nas nossas escolas, que prepara crianças e jovens, promessa do amanhã, para a conversão a uma ecologia integral que tanto se impõe.
The environmental crisis, which since the seventies of last century has been a matter of increasing concern in several areas of the contemporary society, raising questions about the sustainability of the planet, endangered by the degradation and imbalance of the multiple ecosystems, requires profound considerations on how mankind should behave upon becoming aware of the limitation of the Earth's natural resources, and that Nature needs to be taken care of, preserved and cherished, instead of exploited and abused, under penalty of facing not only a present, but above all, a future, wherein there is no room, living or habitability conditions for future generations in this “common home” of ours. Facing such issues, it is particularly important to emphasize the role of the Catholic Church, with its continuous warnings to the governments and international authorities via the Papal Magisterium, on the ecological crisis and the necessity of a real environmental education in what concerns the value of the creation, calling for the urgent need of lifestyles change and the assumption of values of a genuine ecological conversion , through the fostering of an awareness that the ecological crisis is but an indication of another, deeper, crisis coming from within humanity. It is a crisis of ethical, moral and religious values, that prevents mankind from recognizing its own place and presence in the world, from a perspective of true Integral Ecology, which espouses respect and love for mankind itself, others as well as the whole of creation, realizing that “everything in the universe is interconnected” and that “such is a gift from God”. In this increasingly complex world of connections, in which interference is needed, requiring a further continuous education and training regarding the Integral Ecology, it is important to highlight the contribution of the school subject of “Catholic Religious and Moral Education” provided by our schools, which prepares children and young people, the “promise of tomorrow”, for the conversion towards a so pressing Integral Ecology.
