Esta dissertação trata do tema da escatologia na obra de Ratzinger, especialmente no seu Livro Escatologia. A morte e a vida eterna. Começa por uma pequena biografia para contextualizar a obra de Ratzinger no contexto histórico no qual viveu. Ratzinger, um dos grandes teólogos do século XX, estudou várias àreas da teologia. Na teologia, os distintos campos teológicos tocam-se entre si. Por isso, aborda-se a relação entre a escatologia e outras disciplinas teológicas. Os temas mais importantes da escatologia são abordados por Ratzinger, assumindo a metodologia tradicional dos novíssimos: morte, juízo, inferno e paraíso. Portanto, fala-se nesta dissertação da questão da morte, que precede a ressurreição; desenvolve-se o tema da imortalidade da alma e da situação intermédia, ligado à noção de purgatório; expõe-se a questão do juízo, da segunda vinda de Cristo, do inferno e do céu. A dissertação conclui com uma apresentação, baseada em textos de Ratzinger, sobre a esperança mundana e a esperança cristã, esta última intrinsecamente escatológica.
This dissertation addresses the theme of eschatology in the work of Joseph Ratzinger, especially in his book Eschatology: Death and Eternal Life. It begins with a brief biography to contextualize Ratzinger’s work within the historical context in which he lived. Ratzinger, one of the great theologians of the 20th century, studied various areas of theology. In theology, the different fields are interconnected; therefore, this study explores the relationship between eschatology and the remaining theological disciplines. The main themes of eschatology are presented by Ratzinger, following the traditional methodology of the “last things” (novissima): death, judgment, hell, and heaven. Accordingly, this dissertation discusses the question of death, which precedes the resurrection; it develops the topic of the immortality of the soul and the intermediate state, linked to the notion of purgatory; it also addresses the issues of judgment, the second coming of Christ, hell, and heaven. The dissertation concludes with a presentation, based on Ratzinger’s texts, on worldly hope and Christian hope, the latter being intrinsically eschatological.
