Abstract(s)
Sex constitutes a central aspect in the human being throughout his life cycle and even after an evolution on his sexual health was verified, we can still observe risk behaviors in young people. The present study has as an objective to study the variables underlining the behaviors and sexual attitudes towards safe sex, knowledge about HIV/AIDS as well as adopted consumptions. It becomes relevant to study by a population vulnerable to these risks, namely, young college students. The present study is constituted by a whole of 135 (one hundred and thirty five) subjects from both genders. It’s a study with a quantitative, correlational, and with a transverse character. For the data collection, six steps were used; Sociodemographic questioning; Scale of knowledge about transmission and prevention of HIV; Past sexual behavior questioning; Scale of attitudes and other AIDS related behaviors; The Barriers questioning; Reasons for not practicing safe sex; and the alcohol and drug use questioning. This study shows that’s Portuguese college students have the knowledge about safe sex and the risks of not practicing it, although no adoption of said prevention methods is shown. They mention barriers towards safe sex, and even so they may not adopt safe sexual behaviors. College students show that the use of alcohol constitutes a barrier to safe sex.
