Abstract(s)
dados PubMed/Medline®, Web of Science, Embase, Proquest Dissertation and
prazo.
Introduction: Dento-alveolar injuries are very common in children and adolescents. These can range from simple enamel fractures to permanent tooth loss. Treatment is different depending on the type of trauma. Dental trauma presents implications for patients who require dental treatment. Thus, the purpose of this systematic review is to determine the specific parameters when planning and performing orthodontic treatment on traumatized teeth to obviate the risk of dental complications. Materials and methods: This systematic review was based on the PRISMA guidelines. Thus, the literature search was conducted in PubMed/Medline®, Web of Science, Embase, Proquest Dissertation and theses databases to answer the research question, considering the objective and the criteria previously defined. Results: Initially, 1065 articles were selected, then the duplicates were removed, resulting in 973 articles. After reading the title and abstract, 11 studies were eventually assessed for eligibility, where 5 studies were included. The results are heterogeneous, a result of the contemporary nature of the theme. Conclusion: The included studies indicate which parameters should be considered when performing orthodontic treatment on teeth that have suffered prior trauma. According to the results obtained, in this type of clinical situation, we should reduce orthodontic forces on traumatized teeth, carry out more regular check-ups, check pulp vitality during and after orthodontic treatment and, finally, perform follow-up treatment to ensure a good long-term prognosis.
