Abstract(s)
A obesidade surge associada a diversas doenças crónicas e o indivíduo obeso experiencia
frequentemente prejuízo a nível psicossocial e emocional.
A falta
Obesity is associated with several chronic diseases. Obese individuals often experience psychosocial and emotional impairment. The evolution of today's society has contributed to the rising tide of this disease and with it, the prejudice that it encloses. Lack of physical activity is undoubtedly among the main factors in the development and maintenance of obesity. Physical activity in the obese population is associated with numerous psychosocial variables, clinical and socio-demographic characteristics. The aim of this study is to examine the association between self-concept, emotional state and physical activity in a sample of 51 obese women, users of the Health Center of Santo Tirso. The instruments used for this study were the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale to assess the emotional state, the Inventário Clínico do Auto Conceito to assess the self concept and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire to characterize the physical activity of the sample. It was found that the users who do not exercise are more likely to have poor self concept and high levels of anxiety and depression.
