Abstract(s)
Em maio de 2017, celebrou-se o centenário das aparições marianas em Fátima. Este fenómeno, apesar da sua índole fundamentalmente religiosa, exerceu uma forte influência na construção da identidade nacional, tendo sido utilizado ao longo dos últimos cem anos em diferentes narrativas públicas e com distintos objetivos políticos. Optámos por trabalhar com a imprensa, dado que é uma das armas possíveis que luta contra o esquecimento e, por isso, preserva a memória. A imprensa pode ser definida também como uma atividade cultural que comunica a realidade que nos envolve através de representações. Essa realidade está sujeita a uma conjuntura política, social, económica. Inevitavelmente, o contexto exerce influência sobre a forma de como essa realidade é representada, pelo que no nosso trabalho estabelecemos igualmente uma relação entre a informação e/ou opinião, e o contexto em que foi produzida. Assim, a presente investigação parte da leitura de jornais da imprensa de referência nacional (tendo-se selecionado tal títulos e datas específicas), para refletir a propósito do papel desempenhado por Fátima na configuração da identidade portuguesa.
2017 is the centenary of the Marian Apparitions in Fátima, Portugal. This religious phenomenon has a strong influence in Portugal national identity, and it has been used for the past years in different public narratives with different political purposes. We choose to work with the press because it can be considered has a possible weapon against forgetfulness and it preserves our memory. The press can be defined also as a cultural activity that communicates the reality and it involves us through different representations. This reality is restricted to the social and political context. The context has a strong influence in the way that reality is represented. For that reason, we will establish the relationship between information/opinion and the context in which that information was produced. Our investigation will consider the Portuguese reference press to think about the importance of Fátima to Portuguese national identity.
