Abstract(s)
Reverse Trade Missions, a tool of Commercial Diplomacy, are part of the Export Promotion Programs and aim to leverage the internationalization of companies. Some results of the participation in the missions involve the evaluation of the export performance of the company, however I wanted to verify the effects that the participation in the reverse trade missions have on the entry modes. The main research question then arose "What is the impact of the reverse trade missions on the entry modes?” The aim was to analyse the reverse Agribusiness mission of AgroCluster, the Ribatejo Agroindustrial Cluster, whose editions took place in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2019. I supported the research in the case study to answer the research question. Using primary data, such as interviews with entrepreneurs, and secondary data, such as research on web pages, press releases and other documents, and the help of Nvivo, a qualitative data analysis software, I was able to draw the main conclusions from the study. In particular, I’ve found that exporting is the preferred entry mode for companies because it requires less control and investment, and therefore faster. I’ve also noticed that after participating in Agribusiness, companies acquire more knowledge, strengthen contacts, diversify markets and achieve more business opportunities. On the other hand, companies may become more dependent on these programs, not creating the opportunity to carry out other types of international ventures on their own. Also, reverse trade missions can support possible internal investments in the visited countries (hosts), in addition to the promotion of exports for which they are intended.
