| dc.description.abstract | A presente dissertação tem como finalidade perceber quais são as dificuldades dos cuidadores informais idosos na prestação de cuidados a outro idoso, em contexto de domicílio. É um estudo que permite conhecer o bem-estar e a qualidade de vida dos cuidadores informais idosos em relação ao ato de prestar cuidados, em contexto domiciliário, salvaguardando os seus direitos enquanto cuidadores informais. Permite saber se o cuidador idoso é hábil, capaz de cuidar sozinho e se alcança as devidas competências para este ato. Assim, esta dissertação, preocupa-se com o grau de satisfação de um cuidador informal idoso no seu quotidiano. Os dados da literatura sugerem que a experiência de um cuidador informal idoso desvaloriza a saúde física e mental. A perceção dos próprios idosos deve ser atendida. É possível identificar cuidadores idosos com a presença de comorbidades e diminuição da funcionalidade dificultando a sua satisfação na prática de cuidar. Este estudo procura aprimorar as investigações e a elaboração deste constructo em gerontologia, tendo em consideração a complexidade do tema. É por isso um estudo do tipo qualitativo, com a realização de três estudos de caso e os dados tratados mediante análise de conteúdo. A amostra deste estudo é constituída por três cuidadores informais idosos, correspondendo o marido/esposa a cada um. Os principais resultados demonstram que a sobrecarga nos cuidadores informais idosos é subjetiva. Alguns cuidadores informais idosos descrevem este cargo como desgastante a nível físico e cognitivo, realçando também o facto de atualmente não terem capacidade para cuidar. Por outro lado, temos os cuidadores informais idosos que encaram a experiência de cuidar com orgulho no trabalho que têm vindo a desempenhar (que se reflete sobretudo em ver a pessoa bem tratada, bem cuidada e feliz), a consciência de que se dá o melhor, o sentido de realização e o facto de encarar a prestação de cuidados como uma oportunidade de expressão em relação ao amor e afeto. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | This dissertation aims to understand the difficulties experienced by elderly informal caregivers in providing care to another elderly person, in a domestic context. It is a study that provides knowledge about the well-being and quality of life of elderly informal caregivers in relation to the act of providing care, in a domestic context, safeguarding their rights as informal caregivers. It allows us to know if the elderly caregiver is skilled and capable of caring by himself/herself and if he/she attains the appropriate competencies for this task. Thus, this dissertation focuses on the degree of satisfaction of an elderly informal caregiver in his/her daily life. Literature data suggest that the experience of an elderly informal caregiver diminishes physical and mental health. The perception of the elderly themselves must be considered. It is possible to identify elderly caregivers with the presence of comorbidities and decreased functionality, hindering their satisfaction in the caring practice. This study seeks to enhance the research and elaboration of this construct in gerontology, taking into consideration the complexity of the topic. It is therefore a qualitative type of study, with three case studies carried out, and the data processed through content analysis. The sample for this study consists of three elderly informal caregivers, with the corresponding husband/wife. The main results demonstrate that the burden on elderly informal caregivers is subjective. Some elderly informal caregivers describe this as a physically and cognitively exhausting role, also highlighting the fact that they do not currently have the capability to provide care. Conversely, we have the elderly informal caregivers who view the experience of caring with pride in the work they have been performing (which is mainly reflected in seeing the person well-treated, well-cared for and happy), the awareness that one gives one's best, the sense of accomplishment and the fact that they see caring as an opportunity to express love and affection. | pt_PT |
