Abstract(s)
No entanto, obriga a alterações a nível pessoal, conjugal, familiar e social.
This report represents the learning pathway developed, describes and analyzes objectives, activities and acquired competences, aimed to provide specialized care. It intends to respond to a particular theme in the area of Nursing, related with the Parenting. As general and transversal goal in stages, I established the development of the competencies as Specialist Nurses in Child and Pediatric Health with emphasis on the promotion of parenting, in the different contexts of care delivery. The birth of a child is considered a unique moment in the life of the couple. However, it requires changes on a personal, marital, familiar and social level. Parents should be aware of these changes in order to acquire appropriate behaviors for the development and growth of the child. Usually, there are critical events that interfere with the performance of parenting, for example, premature birth, hospitalization of the child/young or the diagnosis of a chronic illness. For Afaf Meleis (1983), the nurse is the most qualified health professional to support parents in this moment of transition, enabling them to take care of the child. The results of the scoping review demonstrates the importance of the nurse’s role in promoting parenting, highlighting parent empowerment, through the availability and active listening relationship, as well as the holding of parental group and health education sessions. It is Pediatric Nurse’s responsibility, through its deep knowledge and specific competences, to promote parental skills in childcare. Thus, from the activities of different contexts of intervention, I highlight the importance of the health education session, addressed to the parents, in the care of the newborn and the construction of informational supports in the care of the child after hospital discharge and in the therapeutic management of Diabetes Mellitus type 1. After analyzing and reflecting about the developed route, I consider that I have achieved Pediatric Nurse competences in assisting and caring for the child and family, in the maximization of their health through the parental care and empowerment partnership.
