A dissertação que temos entre mãos é o resultado de uma pesquisa na qual o
objetivo fundamental é analisar a Igreja Católica em Nampula no período da pós-
Independência, com especial incidência na experiência eclesial do povo macua. A
centralidade deste trabalho reside, assim, no progresso obtido pela Igreja Católica na sua
relação com o povo macua. Este trabalho tem quatro capítulos. No primeiro capítulo
analisamos a origem e as religiões tradicionais do povo macua, a sua organização social e a
sua pertença à comunidade cristã. No segundo capítulo apresentamos a noção de uma Igreja
de viragem desde as vésperas da Independência, pós-independência e as atrocidades que
houve até a guerra civil. No terceiro capítulo tratamos do tema da Igreja Católica na
atualidade, dos progressos obtidos e das suas atividades pastorais. Por último, no quarto
capítulo, abordamos os desafios atuais como a proliferação de confissões religiosas de origem
cristã na arquidiocese, a receção dos acordos de Roma e perspetivamos o seu futuro
This dissertation is the result of research in which the fundamental objective is to analyze the Catholic Church in Nampula in the post-Independence period, with special emphasis on the ecclesial experience of the Macua people. What is central in this dissertation is, therefore, the progress made by the Catholic Church in its relationship with the Macua people. This dissertation has four chapters. In the first chapter we analyze the origin and the traditional religions of the Macua people, their social organization and their belonging to the Christian community. In the second chapter we present the notion of a church of change since the eve of Independence, post- Independence and the atrocities that took place the civil war. In the third chapter we deal with the topic of the Catholic Church today, the progress made and its pastoral activities. Finally, in the fourth chapter we deal with current challenger such as the proliferation of religious confessions of Christian origin in the archdiocese, the reception of the Rome agreements and we think about what their future might be.
