Abstract(s)
This report consolidates the findings and contributions of a situation diagnosis on the perception and practices of occupational health among tattoo artists, highlighting the importance of the intervention of the Nurse Specializing in Community Health and Public Health. The study was carried out in a Grouping of Health Centers in the North of Portugal, in a Public Health Unit, which provided an insight into how the transformations brought about by globalization and technological advances influence health and safety in the workplace, with a particular focus on professions involving specific risks, such as tattooing. To carry out the health diagnosis, a quantitative approach was chosen and data was collected by applying a form, following the methodology of health planning. Data was collected on working conditions, knowledge of health risks, collective and individual preventive measures adopted by tattoo artists, and the degree of knowledge about occupational health. The results pointed to a significant deficit in the knowledge and implementation of health and safety practices, revealing that a considerable proportion of the professionals had no specific training in occupational health. This scenario results in inadequate preventive practices and greater exposure to risks, including diseases associated with musculoskeletal problems and vision, highlighting the urgent need for targeted interventions. The discussion emphasized the importance of an integrated health policy that includes training and raising awareness among tattoo artists about occupational health. The role of the Community Health and Public Health Specialist Nurse as a promoter of health and safety was highlighted, suggesting the development of educational programs and interventions tailored to the needs of this group. Specialized training could empower tattoo artists with knowledge and practices to mitigate health risks, promoting a safer and healthier working environment. This study has reinforced the need for a proactive approach to occupational health for tattoo artists, emphasising the importance of ongoing research, inclusive health policies and specific educational programs. Implementing these measures could have a significant impact on health promotion, the prevention of occupational diseases and the general well-being of tattoo artists, contributing to a more informed, protected, and healthy community.
