| dc.description.abstract | O jornal Liberdade é o ponto de partida para a análise do tratamento da I Guerra Mundial na imprensa católica portuguesa. Para compreender o perfil do periodismo católico durante a I República são observados os modos de organização do catolicismo durante o regime inaugurado em 1910, incluindo os processos de intervenção no espaço público e de mobilização de correntes de opinião. O jornal Liberdade acompanhou o conflito de 1914-18 de acordo com as perspetivas centrais da sua linha editorial: defesa da liberdade de organização dos católicos, ação concertada por meios legais, capelanias militares e separação entre as esferas de atuação da Igreja e do Estado. O tratamento da I Guerra Mundial será profundamente politizado, com a colocação na agenda de temas fulcrais para o catolicismo durante o regime republicano: restabelecimento das relações diplomáticas entre Portugal e o Vaticano e pacificação religiosa como via para estabilidade política interna. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The newspaper Liberdade is the starting point for the analysis of the treatment of World War I in the Portuguese Catholic press. To understand the profile of Catholic periodicals during the First Republic, the modes of organisation of Catholicism during the regime inaugurated in 1910 are observed, including the processes of intervention in the public space and the mobilization the tends of opinion. The newspaper Liberdade followed the 1914-18 conflict according to the central perspectives of its editorial line: defence of Catholics’ freedom of organisation, concerted action by legal means, military chaplaincies and separation between the spheres of action of the Church and the State. The treatment of the First World War was deeply politicised, with issues that were central to Catholicism during the republican regime being put on the agenda: the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Portugal and the Vatican and religious pacification as a way to internal political stability. | pt_PT |
