A revelação de que Santa Teresa de Calcutá experimentou uma longa noite espiritual originou uma enorme surpresa em todo o mundo. A verdade é que aquela figura tão alegre, que todos se habituaram a ver e simpatizar, escondia também uma duríssima prova interior. Muitas foram as interpretações que se fizeram ouvir, algumas até acusando Madre Teresa de mentir ao mundo por aparecer como uma mulher de fé quando, na verdade, não o era.
O nosso objetivo e desafio foi o de mergulhar nesta vida ímpar, procurando ler e interpretar as descrições que dispúnhamos da sua noite espiritual. Apenas à luz do mistério de Cristo, podemos descobrir nesta dolorosa experiência a confirmação de uma relação viva e profunda com Deus e uma identificação total com a sua missão. É olhando para a pessoa de Cristo que compreendemos a vida de Madre Teresa. Procuramos também mostrar que, através da noite espiritual de Madre Teresa, Deus é capaz de tocar e iluminar a vida de tantos homens e mulheres que hoje, mais que nunca, se debatem com as suas próprias noites.
The revelation that Saint Teresa of Calcutta had experienced a long spiritual night caused a huge surprise all over the world. The truth is that the cheerful figure, who everyone got used to seeing and sympathizing with, was also concealing a very harsh inner test. There were many interpretations that appeared, some even accusing Mother Teresa of lying to the world for appearing as a woman of faith when in fact she was not. Our goal and challenge was to plunge into this unique life, trying to read and interpret the descriptions we had of her spiritual night. Only in the light of Christ's mystery, we can discover in this painful experience the confirmation of a deep and live relationship with God and a radical identification with her mission. It is by looking at the person of Christ that we understand Mother Teresa's life. We also seek to show that through Mother Teresa's spiritual night, God is able to touch and enlighten the lives of so many men and women who today, more than ever, struggle with their own nights.
