“A ação pastoral de D. Manuel Trindade Salgueiro, Arcebispo de Évora (1955-1965)”
insere-se no contexto da história da Igreja contemporânea em Portugal e no seu estudo. Apresentam-
se o perfil biobibliográfico de D. Manuel Trindade Salgueiro e o quadro sociogeográfico
e eclesiástico de Évora em 1955; analisa-se a ação desenvolvida por D. Manuel Trindade
Salgueiro na Arquidiocese de Évora em função da situação existente, assim caracterizada: a
descristianização da Arquidiocese, os seminários diocesanos e os efetivos eclesiásticos. Estuda-
se ainda a participação do Arcebispo no II Concílio Ecuménico do Vaticano: o anúncio
feito por D. Manuel Trindade Salgueiro sobre o Concílio, as nomeações e participação nos
trabalhos, as notícias e a implantação das primeiras medidas conciliares na Arquidiocese de
Évora; por fim, reflete-se sobre alguns aspetos da sua vida pessoal, como a sua “vocação marítima”,
os períodos de doença e de regresso a Évora, a espiritualidade da dor e do sofrimento
em D. Manuel Trindade Salgueiro, a sua morte e termina-se com a problemática da memória.
“A ação pastoral de D. Manuel Trindade Salgueiro, arcebispo de Évora (1955-1965)” is set in the context of Contemporary Church History in Portugal and in its study. It presents the bio-bibliographical profile of D. Manuel Trindade Salgueiro and the socio-geographical and ecclesiastical framework of Évora, in 1955; it analyzes the initiatives developed by D. Manuel Trindade Salgueiro in the Archdiocese of Évora according to the existing situation, characterized as: the dechristianization of the Archdiocese, the diocesan seminaries and the ecclesiastical effectives. It further studies the Archbishop’s participation in Vatican II Ecumenical: the announcement by D. Manuel Trindade Salgueiro regarding the Council, the appointments and his participation in the sessions, the news, and the implementation of the first conciliar measures in the Archdiocese of Évora; it finally reflects upon some aspects of his personal life, such as the "maritime vocation", periods of sickness and return to Évora, the spirituality of pain and suffering of D. Manuel Trindade Salgueiro, his death, and the problematic of his memory.
