Introdução: Para uma melhor sistematização dos Cuidados Paliativos, nomeadamente na área da demência, o conforto deve ser adotado como critério de qualidade em saúde. O objetivo do cuidado na demência deverá ser o aumento do conforto. Para tal, deverá ser usado um instrumento de avaliação válido e confiável para triagem e avaliação da eficácia das intervenções. Metodologia: Este estudo pretende expor de forma estruturada e clara todo o processo de tradução e validação linguística da Discomfort Scale for Dementia of the Alzheimer Type (DS-DAT), segundo um referencial teórico, realizado em cinco etapas: tradução para português de Portugal, síntese das traduções, retro tradução para o idioma original, síntese das traduções e revisão por um painel de peritos na área da demência, cuidados paliativos e linguística. Conclusão: A tradução e validação transcultural da DS-DAT (após a conclusão da validação métrica) facultará o acesso em Portugal a um instrumento de avaliação válido e objetivo de diagnóstico de desconforto em indivíduos com demência do tipo Alzheimer, bem como, fornecerá dados quantitativos que fundamentarão a prática de cuidados paliativos em indivíduos com demência do tipo Alzheimer.
Introduction: For a better palliative care systematization, namely in dementia, comfort should be adopted as a health quality criterion. The goal of dementia care should be to increased comfort. For this, a valid and reliable evaluation instrument should be used to screen and evaluate of the effectiveness of the interventions. Methodology: This study aims to present in a structured and clear way the whole process of translation and linguistic validation of the Discomfort Scale for Dementia of the Alzheimer Type (DS-DAT), according to a theoretical framework, carried out in five stages: translation to Portuguese from Portugal, synthesis translation, translation into the original language, synthesis of translations and review by a panel of experts on dementia, palliative care and linguistics. Conclusion: The translation and cross-cultural validation of DS-DAT (after the conclusion of the metric validation) will provide access in Portugal to a valid and objective instrument for the diagnosis of discomfort in individuals with dementia of Alzheimer type, and will provide quantitative data that will support the practice of palliative care in individuals with dementia of the Alzheimer type.
