| dc.description.abstract | A presente investigação pretende avaliar a postura empática em psicoterapeutas portugueses e o papel da regulação emocional. Neste sentido, de modo a compreender melhor este constructo, são consideradas as seguintes variáveis: a regulação emocional, a volumetria cerebral de determinadas áreas cerebrais e o sexo do participante, com o objetivo de estudar se a capacidade de regulação emocional e a volumetria de algumas áreas cerebrais estão associadas com a influência no desenvolvimento de uma resposta empática e se esta difere entre homens e mulheres. Participaram neste estudo 28 psicoterapeutas com pelo menos um ano de experiência clínica. Para avaliar a empatia, além do autorrelato, foi utilizada uma tarefa mais ecológica com vinhetas para as quais os participantes tinham de elaborar uma resposta, enquanto dados neuroimagiológicos eram recolhidos para a análise da volumetria cerebral. Os resultados obtidos demonstram que não existem diferenças entre homens e mulheres a nível da volumetria cerebral nem no desempenho de tarefas empáticas comportamentais, contrariamente ao autorrelato, no qual as mulheres se apresentam como sendo mais empáticas do que os homens. Os dados também demonstram que nesta amostra não existe relação entre o nível de regulação emocional e a capacidade empática. E finalmente, o lobo frontal orbital, o lobo temporal superior e a área fusiforme destacaram-se na análise volumétrica, demonstrando o papel relevante que essas áreas possuem na capacidade empática. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The present study intends to evaluate the empathic attitude of Portuguese psychotherapists and the role of emotion regulation. In this sense, to better understand this construct, the following variables are considered: emotional regulation, brain volumetry, and the participant's sex, to study whether the emotional regulation capacity and the volumetry of some brain areas are associated with the influence on the development of an empathic response, as well as whether it differs between females and males. Twenty-eight psychotherapists with at least one year of clinical experience participated in this study. Besides the self-report, a more ecological task using vignettes that require an empathic response was administered, while neuroimaging data was collected to evaluate brain volume. The results demonstrate that there are no differences between men and women in terms of brain volume or the performance of empathic behavioral tasks, contrary to self-report in which women present themselves as more empathic than men. The data also demonstrate that there is no relationship between the level of emotional regulation and empathic capacity in this sample. And finally, the orbital frontal lobe, the superior temporal lobe, and the fusiform area stood out in the volumetric analysis, demonstrating these areas’ relevant role in the empathic capacity. | pt_PT |
