Abstract(s)
The leadership of and in organizations, in general, has been the subject of multiple studies. Being a recurring theme, it becomes challenging at the same time, for it encompasses not always measurable variables, such as the profile of their leaders. This paper addresses the issue of leadership and particularly the intermediate leadership in schools. Called "Leadership and Expectations", it consists mainly in the reflection on the leadership in the school context, including the role played by middle management class director, based on a perspective of personal experiences, giving special importance to interpersonal relationships, in general. It also consists in believing that the kind of leadership can make a difference, even if not a top one, and that it’s worth having hope and believing that after undergoing metamorphosis, Portuguese school may still evolve to a state of some stability. The school organization has been evolving in the way of meeting the demands of society in general, in order to become effective and capable of forming citizens with a range of knowledge that allows them to fit in and be successful professionally and socially. In this perspective, the role of the teacher is of utmost importance, since he is the transmitter of scientific and other knowledge, which will enable the student to develop and integrate socially. Naturally, the profile of school leaders has undergone numerous amendments that seek to meet these requests. The school is made by people and for people, the building is its casing, and more or less pleasing to the eye, it does not create additional criteria for motivation. You can add elements of comfort, but in fact that can not add more gain. Actually, interpersonal relationships are very important, in our perspective they will be even the most important, so we intend to make this analysis taking into account the particular type of relationship between leader and people.
