empresarial.
Nowadays, Start-ups and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME's) face a very difficult access to Credit, due to the national and international economic situation. It was important to understand the path to be drawn by this type of companies in terms of its financing. It was considered essential to understand the role of banks and the role of the financial intermediary in this process. Through this study we can realize that there are a set of functions performed by banks, but over time are being performed by other players in the financial market as well. The innovation path has played a key role for decades in the financial sector, allowing for constant adaptations over time and in the face of adversity. It is important to realize that there are several factors / reasons that stimulate innovation in the financial area. Taking all this into consideration, we reach the theme of FinTech and the areas where there are many financial innovations, namely in the financing of Start-ups and SME's. It was concluded that Equity Crowdfunding (or Capital-based Collaborative Financing) may be a solution to the problem of access to credit by these companies. After realizing what Crowdfunding (and Equity Crowdfunding) consists of, existing platforms were analyzed in the market and it was understood what the best practices among them were. The Portuguese legislation was also important to realize what could be done in this area in our country. Consequently, an analysis of the internal and external factors that could affect this type of business was made and the conclusion suggests that it would be viable to create such a platform in our country. So, a possible Business Model was created for a future potential implementation.
