O objetivo transversal a
The introduction of play in the paediatric health care is an important therapeutic tool allowing the children to reorganize its perception through the expression of his feelings and emotions to cope with security the anxiety caused while facing a potential traumatic situation. When we think of child care in a holistic view we cannot limit ourselves to drug interventions or rehabilitation techniques. The child needs resources in its own domain to express and live the experience of going to a health care facility (hospital or primary care). In that perspective, several studies point to the importance of play during illness or hospitalization. The paediatric nurse who plays a role in the specialized care of children and their families has a fundamental role in the application of therapeutic play as health promotion. This internship report presents itself as a critical reflexion on the activities developed facing the current literature on therapeutic play in primary and hospital care, having in mind the role of the paediatric nurse as the main prosecutor of its use. This path was ruled by one main goal, to develop competences as a paediatric nurse in promoting play as a therapeutic instrument. The first stage took place in Centro Saúde dos Olivais, where the main objetive was to promote health through prevention and teaching. The second stage was developed in Serviço de Internamento Pediátrico do Hospital da Luz where several interventions in the application of therapeutic play were developed. The third stage was divided between Serviço de Neonatologia do Hospital da Luz, where the need for continuous professional development of nurses to teach premature babies parents was identified, and Serviço de Urgência Pediátrica do Hospital de Santa Maria where therapeutic play was applied to diminish the negative consequences of hospitalization promoting an empathic relationship between nurse and child
