Abstract(s)
This Master's Thesis was built with the intuit to understand how retail store context processes can be improved by a lean approach. For this end, a case study based on a 6 months practical research in a section of a physical retail outlet was developed. The case study is composed of 3 improvement projects with different focuses and objectives, showing distinct applications of principles and lean solutions, as well as different stages of development in the scope of continuous improvement. In this context, besides the study of the operational reality, it was also possible to develop and implement improvement projects, essential to answer the research question of this work. With those, the philosophy of continuous improvement and good lean thinking practices were introduced to the entire section team, who had the opportunity to personally experience the benefits of this approach. In addition, process efficiencies were made possible by the application of lean principles and solutions, which contribute to the improvements of the section performance. Furthermore, these results allowed to favorably conclude about the applicability of Lean Thinking in different contexts of the production - in particular, in the retail, contributing to the better understanding of a subject that it is still not consensual in the literature.
