Abstract(s)
In an aging society, it is becoming increasingly important to highlight the issues surrounding the elderly population in order to provide this population with a better quality of life. In this sense, this internship report was prepared to identify the social difficulties of the elderly in isolation. The internship took place in the Department of Social Action of the City Council of Vieira do Minho, with greater evidence in the Centros de Convio e Lazer (CCL's) of the parish of Rossas, place with the most users (n = 40), followed by the parishes of Cantelães, from Vila, Soengas, Parada de Bouro and Guilhofrei. In the data collection were used instruments of sociodemographic characterization, assessment of the socio-family situation, family functionality and socioeconomic level of the family. Ethical issues in research with humans are considered. Data were analyzed and treated using descriptive statistics. From the analysis of the results it was found that the most vulnerable group with the most social difficulties consisted of the widowed elderly, requiring these greater attentions and the need for social intervention. The CCL's through a dynamic group activities promotion and the other social responses of the municipality contribute to: an active aging, enabling the elderly personal satisfaction and support for the prevention of feelings associated with loneliness and social isolation; avoid or postpone going to Residential Structures for the Elderly; and keep the elderly in the natural environment of life.
