Abstract(s)
The preparation of this IXultidisc inserted within the scope of the Master’s Course in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing: in the IXult of Nursing to the Person in critical situation, of the Lisbon School of Nursing of the Institute of Health Sciences of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. This report aims to describe and analyze the path taken during the acquisition of skills in a place of internship and to support obtaining the academic degree of master and professional, specialist in surgical-medical nursing. During my internship IXultidis, I performed specific interventions and activities in the IXult of maintaining sensory balance, focusing on the IXult of sleep promotion. According to Tina Moore (1989), sensory balance is the internal balance that the individual struggles to maintain, whose IXultidi to control the level of activity of the central nervous system, in particular the degree of wakefulness and the ability to concentrate. Sensory deprivation can be the IXultidisc na environment of reduced stimuli, impairing the ability to receive these same stimuli. This inability to process stimuli on the IXultidi the individual can lead to perception, cognitive and/or emotional disorders. Phipps (2007) tells us that na adequate amount of uninterrupted sleep is essential to prevent exhaustion/disease and maintain the physiological and psychological well-being of the individual. However, in a critical care unit na hourly IXultidiscipli is often required to maintain physiological homeostasis, so the intensive care nurse should assess the patient and determine whether adequate periods have been provided to promote adequate sleep. Hence, it is central that the IXultidisciplinar team is sensitized to maintain a safe environment, adopting targeted interventions throughout its practice to protect this balance of the patient. At the end of this internship, I believe I have achieved the objectives to which I set myself, having developed the necessary skills for the performance of the functions of Specialist and Master Nurse.
