This report appears as a result from the last stage of the Nursing Master’s Degree Specialization in the area of Medical-Surgical Nursing and pretends to develop competences in the specialized care to the person in critical situation and respective family, ending with the title of Nursing Master. This document pretends to make a critical, constructive and reflexive analysis of the achieved activities, as well as the acquired and developed competences in the different stages. Thus, the curricular stage unity was composed by three stages where technical, scientific, relational and ethic competences were developed regarding specialized care to the critical patient and family. The first stage was carried out in the Central Emergency Service of a hospital of the district of Lisbon, standing out the making of a foster guide to deliver to the families of the patients admitted in the observation room in order to increase the quality and continuity of care. The second stage elapsed in the Intensive/Intermediate Unit Care of a hospital of public-private partnership on the outskirts of Lisbon and as sequence of the situation diagnosis, was carried out a systematic literature review about nursing interventions on the control of the delirium in patients admitted in the intensive care unit in order to obtain a better quality in specialized care through actual scientific evidence. Regarding the last stage – optional, occurred in a Palliative Care Unit of a private hospital in the district of Lisbon, standing out the making of an integrative literature review about nursing interventions on the control of delirium in patients admitted in the palliative care unit, through knowledge sharing, it was possible to realize a team reflection about taking decisions and nursing interventions, which could be implemented in the control of patient delirium. Along this formative course there was always a constant attempt to enhance the learning process, in order to acquire a quality, competent, safe, scientific and human practice toward the development of competences for a specialized practice.
