The present study aims to characterize the therapeutic potential of ayahuasca in individuals who are undergoing a process of mourning, and who undergo a retreat in Peru. The study had five female participants of different nationalities who traveled to Temple of the Way of Light in an attempt to integrate an experience of mourning, motivated by the death of a loved one. This research follows a qualitative methodology, in that it is intended to characterize the experiences from the perspective of each participant. In this way, semi-structured interviews were carried out in depth, and the semi-inductive thematic analysis of the data obtained was performed using NVIVO ® 11. The results obtained allowed to identify psychological processes that occur during the experience, under the effect of ayahuasca, and during the integration phase of the experience, which, according to the participants, prove to be relevant for the reduction of the symptoms associated with their grieving process, mainly Emotional Release, Self-Awareness, and Acceptance, which are also supported by the literature that has focused on psychological intervention in mourning. Also presented are the implications of the results achieved, as well as the limitations of the study and suggestions for future investigations.
