Abstract(s)
XX.
This thesis consists in the consideration of the evangelic message found in some of Óscar Romero’s main homilies as Archbishop of San Salvador. It, also, consists of three chapters. The first chapter describes the lacerated and dilacerated history of a country – El Salvador – which has been crafted under the shade of oppression, violence and extreme poverty, initially due to the Spanish control and secondly, consequence of military power – which has led to a civil war during the 80s of the 20th century. The second chapter narrates the life of a man – Óscar Romero – who, having been born in the midst of a Christian family, ended up, in light of his Christian charisma and zeal, being called upon to be the Archbishop of San Salvador. Living the three years in which he was Archbishop of that city in a constant effort towards the defense of the oppressed by military and economic prepotency, Romero’s life would come to an end, martyrized, at the hand of faith-hatred driven individuals. Finally, the third chapter develops, at the rhythm of the History of Salvation, an analysis of the main evangelic themes that – reflecting Archbishop Óscar’s concern towards those in greater suffering as that of the Good Shepherd – are present in the homilies said by the him as Archbishop of San Salvador during the festivities of Christ the King, the Lord’s Supper and Passover Sunday.
