| dc.description.abstract | O estudo explora a estratégia adotada pela Walt Disney Studios para compreender a representação do papel mulheres nas princesas da Disney, através da criação de diversas narrativas. Desta forma, procura-se analisar a receção e a perceção da audiência em relação a esses filmes, de modo a entender como estas narrativas podem influenciar os estereótipos de gênero. O estudo fornece uma análise da influência cultural e social exercida pelos filmes de princesas da Disney, sobre os estereótipos e padrões de beleza existentes, particularmente no contexto do desenvolvimento do movimento feminista. A investigação adota uma abordagem qualitativa, utilizando a análise de conteúdo e entrevistas semiestruturadas. Na presente dissertação, foram analisados cinco filmes de princesas da Disney, desde 1937 até 2021. O objetivo é compreender como a empresa Walt Disney redefiniu a imagem e o significado da princesa enquanto figura feminina através das suas narrativas, ao longo do tempo. As entrevistas semiestruturadas permitem avaliar a receção e a perceção da audiência em relação aos filmes de princesas da Disney, visando compreender como essas narrativas são interpretadas. Os filmes selecionados para análise incluem "Branca de Neve" (1937), "Pocahontas" (1995), "Brave- Indomável" (2012), "Frozen" (2013) e "Raya e o Último Dragão" (2021). Os resultados do estudo permitiram concluir que houve uma evolução na representação dos papéis das mulheres nas princesas da Disney. Através de narrativas cada vez mais igualitárias, a Walt Disney tem evoluído na representação das suas princesas, oferecendo-lhes mais oportunidades e autonomia. Esta mudança acompanha o progresso das ideologias feministas e as profundas transformações sociais e culturais ocorridas desde o final do século XX. Estas princesas contemporâneas revelam-se fortes e independentes, ao contrário do que acontecia com as princesas clássicas. No entanto, apesar de existir maior diversidade, inclusão, e igualdade, os ideais de beleza, ainda persistentes nestas personagens, como a magreza e a simetria facial, revelam fortalecer os padrões de beleza e os estereótipos de género na sociedade. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | This study explores the strategy adopted by Walt Disney Studios to understand the representation of women in Disney princesses through the creation of diverse narratives. In this way, it seeks to analyze how these narratives and the audience's perception of them influence gender stereotypes. The study provides an analysis of the cultural and social influence exerted by Disney princess films on existing beauty standards and stereotypes, particularly in the context of the development of the feminist movement. A qualitative approach was adopted, using content analysis and semi-structured interviews. In the present dissertation, five Disney princess films were analyzed, from 1937 to 2021. The objective is to understand how Walt Disney redefined the image and meaning of the princess as a female figure through its narratives over time. Semi-structured interviews allow assessing the audience's reception and perception of Disney princess films, aiming to understand how these narratives are interpreted. The selected films for analysis include "Snow White" (1937), "Pocahontas" (1995), "Brave" (2012), "Frozen" (2013), and "Raya and the Last Dragon" (2021). The results of the study allowed us to conclude that there has been an evolution in the representation of women's roles in Disney princesses. Through increasingly egalitarian narratives, Walt Disney has evolved in the representation of its princesses, offering them more opportunities and autonomy. This change accompanies the progress of feminist ideologies and the profound social and cultural transformations that have occurred since the end of the 20th century. These contemporary princesses reveal themselves to be strong and independent, contrary to what happened with the classic princesses. However, despite greater diversity, inclusion, and equality, the ideals of beauty, still persistent in these characters, such as thinness and facial symmetry, reveal a reinforcement of beauty standards and gender stereotypes in society. | pt_PT |
