The results showed differences in the quality of life in the dimension of intimacy between the two groups of elderly, social support network and frequency of contact with these people. Furthermore, there are differences between the two elderly groups in marital status, qualifications and time of institutionalization and are perceived differences in the size of the network as predictor of quality of life. The results were, in general, according to expected and were discussed based on the literature, taking into account their implications for prevention and intervention in this problem.
