Abstract(s)
The presence of Mary in the Church is a mystery that participates of the mystery of the presence. Mary continues to be present to the Church as its member, its exemplar and intercessor. This truth is grounded in the dogma of the ascension of Jesus, the assumption of Mary and the communion of saints, according to which participation in the life of Christ is the presupposition of a new mode of presence, no longer captive of the substantialist presence, but extended to the mode of the presence of the Risen One himself. The ways in which this presence manifests itself – its symbols – are diverse, since it is equally diverse the way each faithful and community live their relationship with Mary. The purpose of this presence can be summed up in one: to conform the faithful to the same inner attitude that epitomises the life of Mary: a total and definitive let it be done to the will of God the Father.
