Abstract(s)
O presente estudo qualitativo
pretende avaliar o processo de desenvolvimento do programa Families who love and care for
impacto do programa.
intervenientes e gestão do programa.
a investigação futura.
In the era of globalization, the mass movement of vulnerable people has taken on a new complexity. The refugee population found to be in extremely vulnerable conditions as their journey until to the host countries involves overcoming a significant number of adversities in different dimensions of life. However, upon arrival at the 'safe harbor' this population is confronted with new obstacles that have an even more significant impact on their long-term well-being. At the same time, the host countries' own health systems face considerable difficulties in providing services tailored to the needs of the refugee population. Due to this reality emerged an initiative to develop a preventive program directed to the population of refugees, with the aim of tackling existing gaps. This qualitative study intends to evaluate the process of development of Families who love and care for each other program, its implementation process and the perception of the interveners in terms of its functioning and impact on the participants’ lives. The sample consists of 10 professionals specialized in Migration and Health as well of six refugee families from Syria, Iran and Eritrea. Unstructured data collection interview guides were used for the first phase analysis of the program development process, and semi-structured questionnaires and observation logs for data collection for the second phase analysis of the interveners’ perception regarding to functioning and impact of the program. Qualitative data analysis was performed by using the thematic analysis procedures with the support of the MAX-QDA software, while quantitative data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The results identified four main aspects to take into account in the program development: particular considerations (e.g., cultural, educational and language issues), role of interveners, relationship between interveners and program management. The program responded well to the needs expressed by the refugee population, and interveners’ perception of the program’s functioning and impact was very positive. Finally, we present the theoretical and practical contributions of the study, as well as its limitations and considerations about future research
