Abstract(s)
The crisis environment that we have been living in Portugal since 2008, has made the Portuguese families and companies more aware of their need to save. The saving and the crisis have both a difficult harmonization and the parcel of the available income intended to be saved has decreased significantly. Nowadays, we are facing a new reality, which is for a lot of Portuguese people a synonym of reevaluation of the way the thrift is used so to face the new needs. The crisis and the tax changes have molded the investment decisions alterations itself. This is why the new utilities and needs will be found for this thrift, and this way the thrift will no longer be the remaining of the consumption, but a priority instead, a goal and an effort forged in a long term. In the current context of wages reduction and taxes increase, even if desirable by all, the thrift is a goal even more difficult to achieve. We stand before a challenge for the change of habits and mentalities. Thus, this analysis intends to explain which are the primary determinants, which condition the Portuguese options in terms of investment and saving products.
