Abstract(s)
“dormia”.
This study addresses the pastoral work of D. Manuel Mendes da Conceição Santos, as archbishop of Évora (1920-1955). It presents the biobibliographic profile of the Prelate and the social and ecclesial context in which he developed his pastoral activity: the dechristianization with which the whole Archdiocese was debated and the difficult situation in which the Seminary and the clergy were encoutered. Finally, we study the purposes and modalities of pastoral action implemented by the Prelate, namely the theological, pastoral and devotional dimensions, as a pastoral strategy marked by the idea of public mobilization of the faithful and a re-christianization of society. At the devotional level concretized essentially in the valorization of the Marian cult, we highlight the study of the image of Our Lady of Fatima which, in 1947, allowed the carrying out of popular missions, encouraging sacramental practice, religious formation, the dynamization of acts devotional, community work, the participation of many who lived away from religious or sacramental practices, demonstrating that the faith of the “alentejanos” had not "died" but only "slept."
