This report arises within the scope of the discipline Final Internship and Report, which integrates the Master’s degree in Nursing with specialization in Paediatric and Childcare Nursing at Universidade Católica Portuguesa and aims to illustrate my training path, the experiences, the knowledge acquired and the skills developed during the traineeship. As a nurse, in the process of training in this area of expertise, I had contact with children and their families, in different contexts and health/disease conditions, regarding Child and Paediatric Health, in order to acquire and develop a wide range of skills that should characterise the specialist nurse as a reference professional, for their in-depth knowledge in this specific field. The skills developed were organized into the four major areas of Nursing Intervention, more specifically Care Provision, Management, Training and Research, which interconnect and complement each other. Throughout the partnership, the activities carried out in the different areas of the Paediatric and Childcare Nursing Specialist’s field of action were described and analyzed, with special focus on the promotion of the partnership in care and parenting promotion, supervision and promotion of child development, adequate and effective communication with the child/family binomial, minimizing the impact of hospitalization, pain management and specialized assistance in particularly complex situations, among others, based on a robust theoretical foundation. Was also reflected, the specialist’s role in the management of care and resources, is continuous personal and professional training, and as a promoter of research for the exercise of a practice-based- evidence, in the search for excellence in care.
