Abstract(s)
The growing complexity of healthcare requires highly qualified nursing professionals with continuous training and advanced skills to ensure safe, autonomous and evidence-based practice. This report reflects the professional development and academic progress made in the context of obtaining a Master's degree in Nursing, specializing in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Nursing for the Critically Ill Person. Based on a methodology of critical, reflective and descriptive analysis of the practice of specialized care, grounded in scientific evidence, the report is constituted with the characterization of the internship contexts, Pre-Hospital Emergency and Intensive Care Medicine Service, and with an in-depth reflection on the activities that most favored the development of competences, based on the Domains of the Common Competences of the Specialist Nurse and the Specific Competences in Medical-Surgical Nursing, with a focus on the area of the Person in Critical Situation. Two literature reviews were carried out which provided theoretical support for the practices developed in the clinical context and contributed to the consolidation of specialized skills. The first review, entitled “Development of specialized skills - the contribution of simulation in exceptional situations”, explored its relevance as a training methodology in preparing professionals for highly complex scenarios, such as situations involving multiple victims or catastrophes. The other review, “The Nurse's Role in Intensive Care Follow-up Consultation”, highlights the importance of continuity of care and rehabilitation after ICU admission, with nurses playing a central and multidimensional role with patients and their families. This report highlights the importance of continuous training, critical reflection and evidence-based practice as essential pillars for the development of specialized nursing skills and the provision of excellent care in highly complex contexts.
