Abstract(s)
This report is written in the scope of the curricular units, Professional Practice I, Professional Practice II and Pedagogical Intervention Project, included in the Master in Music Teaching at Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Porto. The report is divided into two parts: the Professional Practice Report carried out in the Instrument disciplines - Bassoon (M08) and Ensemble Class (M32) and the Pedagogical Intervention Project. In the first part, Professional Practice Report, there is a description and reflection on the practices / strategies developed during the supervised teaching practice carried out during the academic year 2020-2021 at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music in Braga, and the project of research developed on bassoon’s initiation students from the same institution with regards to the use of colors as a musical reading strategy under the scientific guidance of Professor Doctor Rui Pedro De Oliveira Alves and pedagogical guidance of Professor Sandra Ochoa. In the second part, the Pedagogical Intervention Project (PIP) is focused on the theme “Color as a musical reading strategy for students in the 1st year of bassoon initiation”. Based on Sérgio Aschero's Chromaphon and the colorful notation developed by ColourStrings, I adapted 5 traditional children's pieces trying to understand the potential of this strategy in students with reading difficulties in bassoon initiation making weekly recordings. The methodology used was the quasi-experimental study, dividing the 3 participants into two groups (control group and experimental group) and performing a pre-test and a post-test. The final results suggest improvements in reading and association of the note to the strumming of the instrument in the students of the experimental group when comparing the pre-test with the post-test.
