Abstract(s)
of Science®.
PubMed/MEDLINE®, Cochrane® e Web of Science®.
Introduction: Temporomandibular disorders are characterized by pathologies that affect the temporomandibular joint, the muscles of mastication and its adjacent structures, being associated with painful symptoms and movement limitation. The main objective of this systematic review is to look for scientific evidence that validates the technique of infiltration with hyaluronic acid in the treatment of temporomandibular disorders, measuring and protocolizing the criteria for its application. Material and methods: The investigation was carried out according to the PRISMA methodology and the research question was defined using the PICO format. A research protocol registered in PROSPERO was elaborated. The search strategy was carried out in the PubMed/MEDLINE databases®, Cochrane®and Web of Science®. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were defined, and inter-investigator agreement was assessed using Cohen's kappa coefficient. Study quality was assessed using the Downs and Black checklist. Result: 367 studies were identified in the PubMed/MEDLINE databases®, Cochrane®and Web of Science®. After excluding duplicates, 230 articles remained, of which 96 were selected for full reading, resulting in 12 eligible studies for analysis. Conclusion: Viscosupplementation with HA has been shown to be effective in treating inflammatory and biomechanical changes in the temporomandibular joint, improving function and reducing signs and symptoms. It is an effective, safe and recommended minimally invasive treatment for intra-articular disorders such as disc displacement with or without reduction, osteoarthritis and osteoarthritis.
