| dc.description.abstract | Este relatório resulta do estágio de cinco meses realizado no Setor de Tradução, na Procuradoria-Geral da República. Neste período de trabalho foi possível ter noção de algumas das questões que se colocam com mais frequência na tradução de textos jurídicos, no âmbito da cooperação judiciária internacional. Pretendeu-se identificar os principais problemas ou questões de tradução, quais as soluções normalmente encontradas e, numa terceira fase, apresentar uma nova proposta de solução ou adesão fundamentada às soluções existentes. Desta experiência resultaram outras reflexões, nomeadamente, sobre o papel do tradutor jurídico como mediador cultural e interlocutor na comunicação interlinguística entre culturas jurídicas. Procurou-se analisar o posicionamento da Tradução Jurídica nos Estudos de Tradução (e perscrutar a atualidade da frequente associação da disciplina à skopostheorie), mas também questionar a tradução jurídica como atividade criativa. Prendeu-se analisar brevemente se a atividade beneficia de formação específica, bem como observar o seu reconhecimento e a profissionalização. Foi possível verificar que o peso e a crescente importância da tradução jurídica, no mercado e na vida dos indivíduos, ainda não tem reflexo proporcional no plano teórico e na formação académica. Constatou-se ainda que a atividade beneficia de maior reconhecimento e prestígio em ambientes bilingues ou multilingues, acabando por ser algo descurada em Portugal. | |
| dc.description.abstract | This report results from a five-month traineeship that took place at the Prosecutor General‘s Office, in its translation unit. During this period it was possible to ascertain and consider some of the issues that permeate legal translation more frequently, particularly in the field of international judicial cooperation. The goal of this report is to pinpoint some of the main problems and translation questions, as well as some of the solutions found and finally to present new solutions or grounded adherence to existing ones. This experience prompted new reflections notably about the role of the legal translator as cultural mediator and as an interlingual communication interlocutor between legal cultures. The place of legal translation within translation studies was assessed (as well as the relevance of the frequent association of the discipline to skopostheorie). Moreover, the issue of legal translation as a creative activity was addressed and the requirement of special training for legal translators is discussed in this report, along with the status of the acknowledgement of this professional activity. Throughout this traineeship it was possible to observe that legal translation has achieved increased weight and prominence in the market, also due to its impact in people‘s lives. Nonetheless, existent education and training programmes in this area still seem not to fully consider these aspects. Apparently legal translation is awarded more recognition and prestige in bilingual and multilingual environments, while still being somewhat neglected in Portugal. | |
