A surf therapy constitui uma intervenção inovadora que alia os benefícios terapêuticos do surf a atividades estruturadas, recorrendo ao contacto com a natureza para promover o bem-estar geral. Este estudo qualitativo explorou o impacto do projeto-piloto “Waves in You”, direcionado a crianças migrantes e refugiadas, com vista à promoção do seu bem-estar emocional e inclusão social. A metodologia envolveu a realização de entrevistas semiestruturadas a profissionais e voluntários que participaram na implementação do programa. Os resultados revelaram um impacto positivo nas crianças alvo da intervenção, traduzido em melhorias do bem-estar emocional, autoestima, regulação emocional e relações sociais. O projeto fomentou ainda vínculos interpessoais e reforçou as redes de apoio familiares. Para os voluntários e profissionais entrevistados, a experiência contribuiu para o seu próprio crescimento pessoal e desenvolvimento de uma maior consciência social. Os principais desafios reportados incluíram barreiras linguísticas e dificuldades logísticas. As sugestões para futuras edições incidem na ampliação do público-alvo, melhoria da organização das sessões e estruturação da formação da equipa. Os resultados evidenciam o potencial da surf therapy e a necessidade de investigação adicional para fundamentar intervenções baseadas em evidência.
Surf therapy is an innovative intervention that combines the therapeutic benefits of surfing with structured activities, using contact with nature to promote overall well-being. This qualitative study explored the impact of the pilot project “Waves in You”, aimed at migrant and refugee children, with the goal of promoting their emotional well-being and social inclusion. The methodology involved conducting semi-structured interviews with professionals and volunteers who participated in the implementation of the program. The results revealed a positive impact on the children targeted by the intervention, reflected in improvements in emotional well-being, self-esteem, emotional regulation, and social relationships. The project also fostered interpersonal bonds and strengthened family support networks. For the interviewed volunteers and professionals, the experience contributed to their own personal growth and the development of greater social awareness. The main reported challenges included language barriers and logistical difficulties. Suggestions for future editions focused on expanding the target audience, improving session organization, and structuring team training. The results highlight the potential of surf therapy and the need for further research to support evidence-based interventions.
