Abstract(s)
The aim of this study is to compare family functionality between clinical families (psychotic disorder) and families from the general population, based on Linares´s Basic Family Relations Theory. The BFRI was applied to 16 participants of whom 8 formed the clinical group and 8 the group from the general population. No statistically significant differences were found in the scores of the marital and parental functions between the two groups nor between males and females. However, statistically significant correlations were found between the marital and parental functions within the clinical group. Furthermore, the results from the CERFB´s descriptive statistics indicated that clinical families tend to perceive the marital and parental functions as less functional than families in the general population. This study proved to be relevant, as it allowed to obtain potentially useful and relevant information that may be included in the clinical families´s intervention (dyadic or group). Therefore, more research on this topic is needed as well as on the CERFB´s discriminative capacity of the Basic Family Relations in families with a child with a Psychotic Disorder.
