| dc.description.abstract | O nascimento de um bebé prematuro e a sua consequente hospitalização numa unidade de cuidados intensivos neonatais constituem eventos críticos na transição para a parentalidade, os quais geram uma nova transição. Os significados atribuídos pelas pessoas condicionam as transições que elas vivenciam. Foram definidos como objectivos deste estudo, conhecer e compreender os significados que os pais atribuem à hospitalização do seu filho prematuro no período neonatal. Foi desenvolvida uma investigação qualitativa inspirada no método da Grounded Theory. Como instrumentos de recolha de dados foram utilizadas a observação participante e a entrevista não estruturada a pais de recém-nascidos prematuros ao final de sete e de vinte e oito dias de hospitalização numa unidade de cuidados intensivos neonatais de um hospital de Lisboa. Dos resultados salientou-se como categoria central “vivendo em incerteza”, associada aos significados simultâneos atribuídos pelos pais à hospitalização, nomeadamente uma “transição difícil” e uma “experiência compensatória”. A compreensão dos significados assentou nas suas condicionantes. Das condicionantes relacionadas com a dinâmica familiar, destacou-se o apoio dos avós e do cônjuge como facilitadores da transição e o facto de ter outro filho para cuidar como gerador de dificuldade. Das condicionantes relacionadas com os profissionais e com o serviço, as competências profissionais percebidas e a relação de confiança com a equipa facilitaram o curso da transição, sendo que o ambiente físico da unidade concorreu para a sua dificuldade. Das condicionantes relacionadas com o filho, a sua evolução clínica e a participação dos pais nos cuidados foram geradoras de grande satisfação, ao passo que a separação do filho foi muito difícil. Das condicionantes relacionadas com os pais, a dimensão espiritual demonstrou-se facilitadora, sendo que os sentimentos de culpa, medo e tristeza dificultaram a transição. Em conclusão é de salientar a aquisição de conhecimento e de uma melhor compreensão no que concerne aos significados atribuídos pelos pais à hospitalização do seu filho prematuro, ficando como sugestão para futuras investigações outras condicionantes da transição, ou mesmo a sua natureza ou padrões de resposta. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | The birth of a premature baby and its subsequent hospitalization in a neonatal intensive care unit are critical events in the transition to parenthood, which generate a new transition. The meanings attributed by people determine the transitions that they experience. It were defined as objectives of this study, know and understand the meanings that parents attribute to their premature child’s hospitalization during the neonatal period. It was developed a qualitative research inspired by Grounded Theory. As instruments of data collection were used participant observation and unstructured interview of the parents of premature infants after seven and twenty-eight days of hospitalization in a neonatal intensive care unit from a hospital in Lisbon. The findings suggested “living in uncertainty” as a central concept associated with simultaneous meanings attributed by parents to hospitalization, including a “difficult transition” and a “compensatory experience”. The understanding of meanings was based on their conditions. About the conditions related to the family dynamics, there was the support from the grandparents and from the spouse as facilitators of the transition and having another child to care as a generator of difficulty. About the conditions related to the professionals and the service, the perceived professional skills and the relation of trust with the team facilitated the course of the transition, while the physical environment of the unit contributed to its difficulty. About the conditions related to the child, the clinical evolution and the parental participation in clinical care generated great satisfaction, while the separation from the child was very difficult. About the conditions related to the parents, the spiritual dimension was facilitator and the feelings of guilt, fear and sadness contributed to the difficulty of the transition. In conclusion, it should be noted the acquisition of knowledge and a better understanding about the meanings attributed by parents to their premature child’s hospitalization, remaining as a suggestion for future research other conditions of the transition, or even their nature or patterns of response. | en |
