Sustainable consumption has become increasingly relevant as a result of today’s environmental, social, and economic challenges. This dissertation aims to analyse the factors influencing the adoption of sustainable consumption practices, focusing on the motivations and obstacles faced by consumers, as well as the strategies that can encourage more conscious behaviours. A quantitative approach was adopted, using an online questionnaire completed by a sample of 130 participants, mostly young adults living in Portugal. The data analysis revealed that, despite a growing appreciation for sustainability, significant barriers persist, such as the high cost of sustainable products, distrust of corporate practices, and limited access to clear and accessible information. Among the most relevant motivations for adopting sustainable behaviours are concerns related to health, well-being, and environmental impact. The study also found that many participants expressed a willingness to change, highlighting the need to create more favourable conditions for action through public policies, environmental education, and stronger corporate commitment. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of consumer behaviour in the context of sustainability and provides valuable insights for the development of effective strategies to promote more responsible and sustainable lifestyles.
