Abstract(s)
The project Deciding to Act is a community intervention project that will be developed by the Public Health Unit of ULSM in partnership with Centre for Research in Nursing of Oporto Health Sciences Institute of Portuguese Catholic University and the School Health Teams of Units Community of Care. It is a longitudinal project that will follow young people of the 1st basic education cycle, their family and teachers during nine years. The stage was subdivided into three modules, Module I corresponding to the health diagnosis of the target population, Module II held in a Community Care Unit and Module III on the development of the other health planning steps. Were addressed three nursing focuses, in particular the Decision Making Process, Parental Paper and Professional Paper, which are associated with diagnostic dimensions: cognitive (knowledge and/or learning skills), attitudinal (beliefs, values, attitudes) and behavioral (accession) (1), obtaining significant health gains after the intervention performed with the parents, particularly with regard to diagnostic dimension knowledge. It is intended that in the end of the project, the young people have acquired skills that promote a healthy lifestyle, in the area of behaviors associated with the consumption of psychoactive substances, of addictive behaviors without substance and behaviors associated with sexuality and reproduction, preventing the acquisition of risk behaviors. Thus they can achieve health literacy, being able to make informed decisions, adopting healthy behaviors and promoting the health of others.
