A profissão de um Deus que é Pai, Filho e Espírito Santo é o mistério central da fé e da
vida da Igreja. Ao longo dos séculos, a complexidade e a densidade do dogma da Santíssima
Trindade constituiu um desafio à linguagem teológico-litúrgica que encontrou na arte um meio
eloquente para se expressar. A presente dissertação procura desenvolver o modo como este
mistério inefável foi representado na arte litúrgica mediante a imagem, a eucologia e a
simbólica. No primeiro capítulo expõe-se uma breve contextualização da evolução e
explicitação do dogma da Santíssima Trindade. Num segundo capítulo, apresenta-se a relação
entre a Trindade e a liturgia, tendo em conta os textos eucológicos, ritos, gestos e símbolos
litúrgicos. No terceiro capítulo identificam-se os diversos modelos de representação trinitária a
partir de imagens, esculturas, pinturas, manuscritos e ícones. Por meio de uma leitura
hermenêutica destas representações, vislumbra-se a intrínseca relação entre a lex credendi que
é, ao mesmo tempo, lex orandi.
The profession of a God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit is the central mystery of the faith and life of the Church. Over the centuries, the complexity and density of the dogma of the Holy Trinity has challenged the theological-liturgical language, which has found in art an eloquent means of expression. The present dissertation seeks to develop the way in which this ineffable mystery has been represented in liturgical art through image, euchology and symbolism. The first chapter presents a brief contextualisation of the evolution and explicitness of the dogma of the Holy Trinity. The second chapter presents the relationship between the Trinity and the liturgy, taking into account the euchological texts, rites, gestures and liturgical symbols. In the third chapter the different models of Trinitarian representation are identified from images, sculptures, paintings, manuscripts and icons. Through a hermeneutical reading of these representations, we glimpse the intrinsic relationship between a lex credendi which is, at the same time, lex orandi.
