Abstract(s)
The theme of this study is the investigation in initial training in Social Work and has as main objectives: understand the emphasis on research as one of the components of the initial training in social work and know the models and practices governing the education and training of research in initial training in Social Work. Conceptually the study report’s to the epistemological, methodological and ethical debates about Social Work research. Empirical research is based on a qualitative approach of multiple case studies and the analytical units are three undergraduate courses in Social Work in Portugal. The choice of courses followed a theoretical replication logic of where each represents an ideal type on the design of the research education in Social Work in initial formation: i) Case A is a model organized around with UC Based Research; ii) Case B is a model organized around UC Based Research and Research Seminars; iii) Case C is an organized model around UC Research Base and Research and Intervention Seminars. The sources of evidence of this study are: semi-structured interviews (to coordinators and professors of the UC mentioned) and various documentary sources. The results revealed a concern to a transversal teaching of methodological approaches to create knowledge and basic skills in this area and a training concern these skills in practice (experiential component), where we find two major guidelines or models: i) carrying out research projects in stage of context (or part thereof); ii) carrying out research projects in Research Seminars using the stage in order to maximize the logic of research practice. The results revealed a crosscutting concern in the teaching of methodological research approaches to create knowledge and basic skills in this area and a training concern these skills in practice (experiential component), where we find two major guidelines or models: i) carrying out research projects in internship context; ii) carrying out research projects in Research Seminars using the internship in order to maximize the logic of research practice.
