Resumo(s)
Psychological safety is a key factor for team learning and performance
(Edmondson & Lei, 2014; Duhigg, 2016). Schools are largely team-based
organizations. Team learning behaviours are crucial to their performance.
Research in school organizations is scarce in this area.
We test a model in which team learning behaviours (Savelsberg, van der Heijden & Poell,
2009; Dimas, Alves, Lourenço & Rebelo, 2016) are explained by their psychological
safety (Edmondson, 1999) for group learning (Rebelo & Gomes, 2011). The effect of
psychological safety on cultural orientation for group learning is moderated by the
strength of the psychological safety climate (Koopmann et al., 2016).
We surveyed 299 individuals, from 47 teams / groups, from two school groups in
the metropolitan area of Porto. It is verified by linear regression that the learning
behaviours in team are explained by the psychological safety through the
mediating effect of the cultural orientation to the group learning when the teams
present strong strength of psychological safety climate.
The results corroborate studies in non-school organizations and recommend that
the background of psychological safety in school organizations be deepened.
