This dissertation aimed to analyse how the integration of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) policies has impacted the Portuguese logistics sector, with particular emphasis on management control systems, tools, and discourse. The study followed a quantitative, descriptive approach, supported by a survey answered by thirty companies, including pure logistics operators, retail chains, and companies with integrated logistics operations. The results evidenced that most companies have already initiated the integration of ESG practices, with a stronger emphasis on the development of the environmental dimension. However, lower maturity was observed in the social and governance dimensions, highlighting the need for stronger monitoring and a more embedded organizational culture around sustainability. The analysis also reinforces the predominance of road transport, to the detriment of more environmentally friendly alternatives such as rail transport, as a consequence of a disproportionate investment compared to railways, with a need for sustainable solutions at a national level. This dissertation thus contributes to the understanding of ESG policies within companies and also provides a basis for future research, particularly through alternative approaches that explore the gap between organizational discourse and actual practices.
